Hire a verified yaya in Cebu: rates, areas, and how to look
How Cebu families hire a yaya above the ₱7,000 Central Visayas kasambahay floor, what to write for Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, and how to browse verified profiles.
Helpers Philippines
TL;DR: A yaya hired for regular work in a Cebu household is a kasambahay. The Central Visayas cash floor is ₱7,000 a month from 4 October 2025. Write the barangay, the commute, the language the children speak, and the rest day before you browse. Shortlist people with ID and NBI status you can read, then hire direct.
Cebu families often search "yaya Cebu" the week a school term starts or a second baby arrives. The honest version of that search is slower than a Facebook post and faster than flying someone in from Manila without a plan.
This page is for households in Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, and the nearby towns who want a regular yaya, not a one-day sitter. The statute is Republic Act 10361. The wage floor is in the NWPC domestic-worker summary as of 9 July 2026. How to run the first week sits in hiring your first yaya.
What Cebu households are actually hiring
"Yaya" in Cebu still means childcare first. It does not automatically mean the whole house. Write the children's ages, school run, live-in or stay-out, and whether cooking and laundry are in or out. The nanny job description is the template to steal from.
Three patterns show up on the island:
- Stay-out yaya for a Banilad, Lahug, or IT Park household, timed to school and office hours, with a real end time.
- Live-in yaya for a house in Talisay, Consolacion, or a compound where the parents leave before sunrise.
- A "yaya" listing that is actually all-around kasambahay work. If bathrooms and the whole laundry pile are in the job, say so and pay for that job.
Cebu City traffic is the hidden duty. A school run from Mabolo to a campus in the north, then back for a toddler nap, is a different day from a condominium where the preschool is downstairs. Put the route in the listing.
The legal floor in Central Visayas
Region VII (Central Visayas) sits at ₱7,000 a month under Wage Order ROVII-DW-05, effective 4 October 2025, per the NWPC summary. That covers Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor. It is not the Metro Manila ₱7,800 figure. Copying the NCR number in a Cebu post is legal. Copying a ₱6,000 "package" is not.
Live-in does not lower the floor. Food and a safe room are extra duties on the employer under Section 6 of RA 10361, not a discount. The regional wage table is the lookup when a relative in Danao quotes a different figure.
Helpers.ph market bands for a Cebu nanny sit above that floor when the role is skilled childcare. Treat those bands as estimates from the salary calculator, not as a second law. A newborn specialist, night duty, or two school-age children will price higher than a six-hour stay-out post.
Cebu City, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and the commute
Write the city the yaya will actually travel to.
| Area | What to put in the listing | Watch-outs | | --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Cebu City (Lahug, Banilad, Mabolo, Guadalupe) | Barangay, building or house, school run, parking or jeepney access | Peak traffic. A 6pm finish in the north can be a 7:30pm arrival home. | | Mandaue | Exact sitio, whether the role crosses to Cebu City during the day | Two cities in one day needs transport money in writing. | | Lapu-Lapu / Mactan | Bridge timing, airport-area noise, whether nights are expected when a parent flies | Overnight duty is a different agreement. | | Talisay and the south | Live-in room description, rest-day transport home | "Near SM" is not an address. |
Browse nannies in Cebu and the Cebu city hub before you widen the search to "Visayas." A helper already living in Mandaue will have a different yes than someone who would have to uproot from Dumaguete.
If you need coverage across Lapu-Lapu as well, say so. Do not assume one person can split a Mactan morning and a Cebu City afternoon without a driver or a much longer day.
Cebuano, Tagalog, and Sinulog week
Language is a work tool, not a personality test. If the lola in the house speaks Cebuano and the children answer in Cebuano, write that. If the parents speak English at dinner and Tagalog with the yaya, write that too. Many Cebu yayas already switch. Requiring "native speaker, no accent" usually hides a preference you have not named.
Sinulog is a real calendar event in Cebu City each January: processions, street closures, guests, and children who are not in school. It is not a legal extra from DOLE. It is a scheduling problem you can see coming. Agree in writing:
- whether she works the festival weekend
- the extra pay for a rest-day swap
- who watches the children if she goes home to the south
- whether guests sleep in her room (they should not)
Families who "see how it goes" in January lose the rest day and then lose the yaya in February.
How to look without a public Facebook blast
Public groups in Cebu fill a post in an hour and give you no identity trail. A better order:
- Write the one-page brief: ages, hours, live-in or stay-out, rest day, wage, language, barangay.
- Browse Cebu nanny profiles. Filtering costs nothing. Messaging and job posts use Connect. Helpers does not deduct a percentage of the wage.
- Read how we vet helpers. ID, NBI, and references are separate badges. An ID match is not an NBI clearance.
- Interview on the actual school-run timing, not on "are you patient."
- Check one reference with consent. Ask dates, duties, and whether they would hire her again.
- Use a paid, supervised trial. Pay the same day.
- Sign before day one. Use the kasambahay contract template and the legal hire steps.
Ask for an NBI clearance when the role justifies it, pay the document costs, and give the original back in the same meeting. Section 12 of RA 10361 allows the documents. It does not allow you to keep her ID in a drawer.
Pay, rest, and the Cebu cost stack
Budget more than the ₱7,000 floor.
- Cash wage at or above the Region VII order, paid at least monthly, with a payslip.
- Employer share of SSS as a household employer, plus PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG after one month.
- Three adequate meals and a safe room if she lives in.
- 13th month pay.
- Transport or load for a stay-out yaya whose jeepney fare is not theoretical.
Cebu City households that offer exactly ₱7,000 for a stay-out yaya with a two-hour daily commute are competing against every other household offering exactly ₱7,000. The floor is the law. It is a weak offer for someone who already has two interviews in Mandaue this week.
Night duty, a newborn, or a child with a written medical plan belongs in the wage conversation before the trial, not after.
Red flags that are common in Cebu hiring chats
Pause when:
- someone asks the yaya to pay a "processing fee" or a share of a finder's fee (Section 13 of RA 10361 bans that)
- the listing says "all-around / yaya / cook / driver, salary negotiable"
- originals of the passport or NBI stay with the family "for safekeeping"
- rest day is "after Sinulog" with no date
- the only address is "somewhere in Cebu"
One red flag is a reason to slow down. A stack of them is a reason to walk away and keep browsing.
Interview questions that match a Cebu household
Warmth is cheap in an interview. The school run is not. Sit with the actual timetable.
- "Walk me through a Wednesday if pickup is in Banilad at 4:15 and traffic is already locked."
- "What language will you speak with the children when I am not in the room?"
- "Have you lived in or commuted to Mandaue or Lapu-Lapu for work? How long did the door-to-door take?"
- "Sinulog week last time you worked in Cebu City: who had the children, and was the rest day moved in writing?"
- "What would make you leave a job in the first two months?"
Listen for specifics: jeepney plus walk, a cousin's room in Guadalupe, a previous rest day that never happened. A candidate who cannot describe a real commute will not magically gain two hours a day after you hire her.
If the children are still in nappies, add the newborn questions from the infant yaya checklist. If the job is actually the whole house, stop calling it a yaya interview.
Live-in rooms, stay-out finishes, and barangay paper
Cebu City condominiums often promise a "helper's room" that is a windowless storage bay. Section 6 of RA 10361 requires humane sleeping arrangements that ensure safety. Show the room on the video call. If she would be sleeping in the living room after 10pm, that is not a room.
Stay-out roles need a finish time you will honour. A 7pm dinner in Lahug plus a commute to Carcar is not a nine-to-five. Pay for the day you actually run, or offer live-in with a real rest day and a way home to the south.
Barangay registration is still yours. Section 17 puts the kasambahay on the Registry of Domestic Workers in the barangay where you live, whether that barangay is in Cebu City or Talisay. SSS enrolment uses the household employer process, not a Facebook instruction from a recruiter. PhilHealth's employer registration page is the parallel track. Doing one does not do the other.
Keep payslips. Cebu households that pay in cash every Saturday still owe a written record. When a disagreement hits the DOLE Regional Office in Central Visayas, memory is a weak file.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I pay a yaya in Cebu in 2026?
The legal floor in Central Visayas is ₱7,000 a month under Wage Order ROVII-DW-05, effective 4 October 2025, as listed in the NWPC summary dated 9 July 2026. That is the cash wage you cannot go under, live-in or live-out. Offers that compete in Cebu City, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu usually sit above the floor. Price the real duties in the salary calculator rather than copying a Facebook number.
Where should I look for a yaya in Cebu?
Write the barangay and the commute, then browse nanny profiles tagged to Cebu rather than posting in a public group with no identity check. Helpers lets families browse and shortlist for free. Read the ID and NBI status on each profile, then message only when you are ready to hire direct. Helpers does not take a commission from the salary you agree.
Do I need a Cebuano-speaking yaya?
Only if your household actually speaks Cebuano or Bisaya at home and the children need that language. Many yayas in Cebu City already use Cebuano, Tagalog, and some English. Write the language the children hear at dinner. Do not use "native Bisaya" as a coded filter for something else.
Is a yaya in Cebu covered by the Kasambahay Law?
Yes, if she regularly performs domestic work in one household. Republic Act 10361 covers yaya work, live-in or live-out. You still need a written contract before day one, a weekly rest day, payslips, and SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG after one month of service.
How do I handle Sinulog week with a new yaya?
Sinulog falls in January in Cebu City. Streets close, guests arrive, and rest days get cancelled unless you planned them. Write overtime, guest meals, and the rest-day swap in the contract before the festival, and pay for extra days instead of calling them a favour.
